Islam Makhachev has once again demonstrated that he is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, achieving a convincing victory over Ian Machado Garry to defend his welterweight title at UFC 330, held in Philadelphia. Makhachev, originally from Russia, dominated the match, winning by unanimous decision and setting a new record with his 17th consecutive victory in the UFC, thus surpassing the 13-year record held by Anderson Silva.
This victory ended Machado Garry's aspirations to become the first Irish champion in the UFC since Conor McGregor. Makhachev, a former lightweight world champion, thus improves his record to 29 wins and one loss, while Machado Garry suffered his second defeat in a 19-fight career. Makhachev acknowledged Garry's skills, stating that he was a tough opponent, but once again proved that he is a top fighter.
The match was promoted as a classic showdown between a grappler and a striker, with Makhachev using his wrestling style to secure victory. Although Makhachev had an impressive run, Machado Garry entered the octagon with confidence, carrying an Irish flag.
