World No. 1 Jannik Sinner will not participate in the Shanghai Masters 1000 tournament, scheduled to take place in China, after a knee injury has kept him off the tour for more than two months. The Italian announced his withdrawal in a message posted on Instagram, without providing further details about his medical condition.
Sinner has not played a match since the Wimbledon final and missed all the tournaments of the North American hard-court season, including the US Open. Subsequently, he also withdrew from the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing, where he was the defending champion.
The Italian press reported that the player was photographed in Lyon, near the Centre Orthopédique Santy clinic, which specializes in orthopedic problems and is recognized as a FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence. Sinner is said to have consulted a specialist in knee conditions, but the information has not been officially confirmed.
