Jannik Sinner, the ATP world No. 1, has announced that he will not play another match in 2026 after his right knee injury failed to heal. The Italian made the announcement in a post on X, saying that he had made the decision on doctors’ advice.
Sinner has been absent from the ATP Tour since mid-July, when he won the Wimbledon tournament. He recently confirmed that he would also miss the Shanghai Masters, but the latest announcement means he will miss all the major competitions remaining this season.
The Italian will be unable to defend his titles in Vienna, Shanghai and at the ATP Finals in Turin. His absence will cost him important ranking points, while Alexander Zverev is set to become the leader of men’s tennis in the coming weeks.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Sinner currently has a 1,280-point lead over Zverev. The decision to withdraw for the rest of the season comes amid persistent problems with his right knee and medical recommendations regarding his recovery.
