Alexander Zverev has climbed to the top spot in the ATP rankings for the first time in his career, at the age of 29. The German tennis player dethroned Italian Jannik Sinner, who has not played a match since the Wimbledon tournament, held in the summer of this year.
Zverev has 9,550 points in the world rankings, thus becoming the third German player to reach the ATP No. 1 ranking. Sinner has dropped to second place, with 9,450 points, while the podium is completed by Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who has accumulated 6,100 points.
The change at the top of the rankings comes after Sinner's prolonged absence, as he has not competed since Wimbledon. Zverev took advantage of the small gap between the top two players and moved into first place for the first time.
Novak Djokovic has climbed one place, but remains outside the world Top 10. The former ATP No. 1 occupies 11th place. The rankings reflect the points earned by players in tournaments held during the reference period.
