The “Gică Popescu” Football School, declared non-compliant by the Government

The Gică Popescu Football School is on the list of 47 organizations declared non-compliant by the General Secretariat of the Government, following an evaluation of Romania’s 229 public-utility associations. The report, published last week, shows that the association fails to meet five of the 15 criteria assessed.

The problems identified include the absence of an annual activity report and annual financial statements, failure to publish an extract in the Official Gazette, Part IV, missing documents on the Ministry of Justice’s website, and clear non-compliance with the provisions of Government Ordinance No. 26/2000. The absence of an annual report or financial statements is sufficient for an organization to be deemed non-compliant.

Gică Popescu says the documents were submitted approximately two weeks ago through the National Sports Agency and that the situation is in order. The General Secretariat of the Government announced that it will notify the organizations with issues. If they fail to comply, the Government may begin procedures to withdraw their public-utility status.

The academy founded by the former Romanian international also faced financial problems last year, when Popescu considered closing the school or selling the approximately two-hectare plot on which it operates. The latter option was not pursued, and activities continued. ,
