Mircea Sandu, former FRF president, announces that he will get involved with a club in Romania

Mircea Sandu, former president of the Romanian Football Federation and one of the important players in the club’s history, wants to support Sportul Studențesc, which was re-established after being dissolved in 2017. The team currently plays in Liga V and consists of former players from the “Crazy Gang,” alongside young footballers.

Sandu said he is trying to find sponsors to cover the team’s organizational expenses. He called for unity among those involved in the project and urged them to avoid conflicts over the club’s revival.

The new project also benefits from the support of other former Sportul Studențesc players. Tibi Bălan is the coach, Dacian Varga is part of the staff, while Paul Cazan serves as honorary president. Cazan said he wants the team to grow gradually and return to the level it reached in the past.

Founded in 1916, Sportul Studențesc is one of the traditional clubs in Romanian football. The team plays at the stadium in Regie, and its most important achievements are finishing second in the Romanian championship in the 1985-1986 season and reaching the third round of the UEFA Cup in 1987. The club won the Balkan Cup in 1979.
