Romania’s U21 national team could have a new coach after failing to qualify for the Euro 2027 finals, with Adrian Mutu among the names being considered to replace Costin Curelea. Mihai Stoichiță, technical director of the Romanian Football Federation, said that no decision has been made yet.
Stoichiță said on the FANATIK SUPERLIGA show that the FRF must first discuss the current coach’s future with him regarding his position at the youth national team. The official emphasized that Mutu is a valuable coach and could be an option, but rejected the idea that the former international is already the leading candidate.
Before any potential decision, the FRF will monitor the U20 national team’s November campaign, when Romania will play matches against Switzerland and Poland. The games are expected to help shape the future U21 squad, with the next major competition scheduled only for September next year.
Stoichiță noted that the U21 team served as a launching pad for Mirel Rădoi, Adrian Mutu and Daniel Pancu. He also said that the Federation has salary caps, with the U21 coach receiving a salary of approximately €4,000 per month.
