Costin Curelea is reportedly set to part ways with Romania’s U21 national team after the activity scheduled for November, following the Romanian Football Federation’s decision not to extend his contract. The information was presented by journalist Horia Ivanovici and published by Fanatik.
The head coach and members of his staff reportedly have approximately 20 days left on their mandates, and are due to take part in the youth team’s final activity before their collaboration with the FRF ends. The decision would come after Romania U21 failed to qualify for the European Championship, with the campaign ending in a comprehensive 1–7 defeat to Spain.
The result generated criticism of the team and the technical staff. Controversy also emerged before the match after photographs were published showing several staff members at a party organized in Ibiza, at the residence of the controversial Nicu Gheară.
Costin Curelea took over the U21 national team in 2025, following Daniel Pancu’s departure. His mandate would thus end after just one qualifying campaign.
