Gabriela Ruse, a Romanian tennis player, made a successful debut at the 2026 Australian Open, defeating Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska, ranked 27th in the WTA, with a score of 6-4, 7-5. The match lasted one hour and 49 minutes, and Ruse managed to reach the second round for the second consecutive year. Although she led 4-0 and 5-1 in the second set, Ruse had difficult moments but managed to finish the match on her fifth attempt.


With this victory, Ruse will receive 70 WTA points and a prize of $151,139. In the next round, she will face the winner between Yuliia Starodubtseva and Ajla Tomljanovic. Romania still has two players in the competition, Jaqueline Cristian and Sorana Cîrstea, who will play in the coming days.
