Carlos Alcaraz, the world number one in tennis, has withdrawn from the final stage of the Davis Cup in Bologna, just two days before the quarter-final between Spain and the Czech Republic. In a post on his X account, Alcaraz expressed his sadness, mentioning that he is suffering from swelling in his right leg, resulting from significant muscle strain after the ATP Finals, where he was defeated by the Italian Jannik Sinner.
The Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) confirmed that Alcaraz underwent medical examinations in Bologna, which highlighted his issue. His season ended with a total of eight titles, including two Grand Slams. His withdrawal represents a significant loss for the Davis Cup organizers, who are already missing the presence of other top players like Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti. Alcaraz will return to Spain on Tuesday.
