Carlos Alcaraz, the world No. 3, will compete for the first time since 2021 at the ATP 500 tournament in Vienna, scheduled to take place from October 26 to November 1. The competition organizers announced on Thursday that the Spanish player will return to the Austrian capital.
The decision was made after the schedule of the “Six Kings Slam” exhibition tournament, held in Saudi Arabia, was changed. The event, in which Alcaraz was due to participate from October 21 to 24, was postponed to December 27-30. The organizers cited the bloody attacks by Yemen’s Houthi group against Saudi Arabia.
Following the announcement of the postponement, Vienna tournament director Herwig Straka contacted Alcaraz’s representatives. According to the organizers, negotiations proceeded quickly, and the Spaniard agreed to compete in the Austrian event.
Alcaraz had initially intended not to play in a tournament between the competition in Saudi Arabia and the Paris Masters 1000, scheduled for November 2-8. His participation in Vienna therefore changes his competition schedule this autumn.
