Victor Petrov, a pro-Russian politician from the Republic of Moldova, has filed a lawsuit against the Territorial Inspectorate of the Border Police in Iași after being denied entry into Romania in March 2025. The refusal was justified by his presence on the European Union's sanctions list, which accuses him of destabilizing the constitutional order in Moldova. Petrov also attempted to enter Romania through Giurgiu but was turned away for the same reasons. The European Council decided in February 2024 to sanction Petrov, mentioning his involvement in actions that undermine democracy. Although he denied the allegations and challenged the legality of the sanctions, Romanian courts have dismissed his previous actions. Petrov has been involved in controversies regarding his wealth and has been investigated for possible tax violations. His trial will be held at the Bucharest Court of Appeal in March 2026.
