PSD MEP Victor Negrescu said Wednesday on Digi24 that the Social Democrats want the future parliamentary majority to be built around the PSD, after the Mureșan Government is expected not to receive Parliament’s vote. He suggested that a change in the UDMR’s position could facilitate negotiations to form a new government.
Negrescu said that, in Brussels, European partners are closely monitoring the political situation in Bucharest and are awaiting a new nomination for the position of prime minister. According to the MEP, installing a government with full powers is necessary for negotiations on the European Union’s future multiannual budget, including subsidies for farmers and funds for local development.
He said he expects a democratic, pro-Western and pro-European majority and, at present, rejected the scenario of a PSD-AUR government. Negrescu criticized the “red lines” imposed by some parties toward the PSD and advocated resuming political dialogue.
The MEP also said that European partners and international markets are concerned about the possibility of early elections because of the risk of a more fragmented Parliament and the effects on economic stability, the deficit and the implementation of the NRRP.
