PSD MEP Victor Negrescu argues that a government alongside PNL and USR is still possible if the two parties abandon the resolutions by which they ruled out cooperation with the Social Democrats.

The statement was made in Strasbourg, nearly four and a half months after the dismissal of the Bolojan Government through a motion of no confidence initiated by PSD and AUR.

Negrescu believes that the positions taken by PNL and USR were “emotional” reactions and must be overcome in the context of the protests and social tensions. He noted that PSD had not adopted a similar non-cooperation resolution and that the liberals had abandoned such commitments in the past.

Asked whether PSD would support a prime minister proposed by PNL, the MEP did not give a direct answer. He recalled that the Social Democrats support either Sorin Grindeanu’s candidacy for the position of prime minister or a government built around PSD.

According to Negrescu, any cooperation would require revising the government program, which he says has “failed,” as well as a prime minister capable of engaging in genuine dialogue with political and social partners. PNL had proposed a government formula without PSD.
