Sorin Grindeanu: “Anything coming from USR cannot be taken into consideration”

PSD President Sorin Grindeanu rejected any proposal from USR and said he would be willing to cooperate with the PNL, but not in its current form. The statements were made at a press conference amid discussions about forming a majority and appointing a new prime minister.

Asked whether he was considering USR’s proposal for a new government rotation, Grindeanu replied that “anything coming from USR cannot be taken into consideration.” In contrast, the PSD leader said he would like to cooperate with a “right-wing, conservative, Christian Democratic” PNL, which he said he knows, arguing that the Liberals currently resemble USR.

Grindeanu also reiterated that he is ready to take over as prime minister. He said that, if appointed, he would negotiate with all parliamentary parties to secure the support needed to form a majority.

The PSD leader had previously said he expected President Nicușor Dan to appoint him prime minister following last week’s consultations. Grindeanu said he was surprised and disappointed by the head of state’s decision.
