Professor Theodor Paleologu stated that the current governmental crisis in Romania is similar to the situation in the film 'Groundhog Day', where the same day repeats itself. He argues that the reasons for this crisis are not serious, but rather the pride and 'petty squabbles' of the parties. Paleologu noted that, unlike other countries, parties in Romania do not seriously discuss solutions, but engage in bellicose statements.
He also criticized Sorin Grindeanu, stating that he is not in a position to talk about privileges, considering that the overthrow of the Bolojan Government was not based on political principles. Paleologu mentioned that foreign ambassadors are confused by the situation in Romania, and Romanian politics is characterized by 'absurd noise'. He emphasized the failure of Romanian democracy, especially following the annulment of the 2024 elections. Regarding Nicușor Dan, Paleologu said that he seems overwhelmed by the situation, while he appreciated the UDMR leader, Kelemen Hunor, as the 'adult in the room' due to his lucidity and experience.
"It's a famous film, Groundhog Day, in which the same day repeats itself, the same things keep happening. Again, we will see Nicușor Dan receiving delegations from the parties, handshakes, statements that it will be resolved, and so on. Grindeanu is not very well positioned to talk about privileges. Everyone knows that the overthrow of the Bolojan Government was not based on any principle or real divergence of economic policy, to put it mildly. No, it's about maintaining certain privileges. So he is indeed very poorly positioned to talk about such things.
It is a chaotic situation, so I am not surprised. Moreover, he has slow cognitive processes and reacts slowly. So for him, it is particularly difficult to manage such a situation.
An adult in the room is Kelemen Hunor. He was my successor at the Ministry of Culture. Since then, we have had a friendly relationship and I often ask him what is happening. And he is very lucid. He sees things with a certain distance, and he has a certain experience," stated Theodor Paleologu, live on Digi24.
