Five months after the Government led by Ilie Bolojan was dismissed through a motion of no confidence, Romania has not overcome the political and economic crisis, claims Social Democrat Mihai Fifor. The criticisms were voiced on Monday, on the day of consultations at Cotroceni Palace for the appointment of a new prime minister.
In a Facebook post, Fifor states that the economy continues to be affected by instability, rising costs, and diminishing purchasing power. “Romania is still in crisis. The euro is up in the air, energy is up in the air, fuel prices are up in the air,” he wrote. The Social Democrat also mentioned postponed investments, as well as the scaling back of some companies’ activities.
The message comes in the context of PSD proposing Sorin Grindeanu for the position of prime minister. Fifor says that the party is attending the consultations not only with a name, but also with a governing program that includes relaunching industry, investments, attracting European funds, energy, agriculture, healthcare, and education.
The Social Democrat maintains that reducing the deficit cannot rely exclusively on austerity and new taxes. He says the solution must protect the population and provide a direction for emerging from the political and economic deadlock.
