Before Sunday’s public criticism, Sorin Grindeanu asked interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to participate in forming a new government, arguing that Romania needs a stable majority and an economic relaunch program. The PSD leader also proposed rebuilding a coalition comprising the PSD, PNL, USR, UDMR, and representatives of minorities as a solution for overcoming the political deadlock.
Against the same backdrop, Grindeanu stated that the PSD supports the investiture of designated Prime Minister Luca Niculescu’s government and asked the PNL to join the government. At the same time, he accused the Bolojan Government of incompetence regarding the management of reforms under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and the pay law.
Even before these positions were taken, the PSD had announced that it had filed prior complaints with the Bucharest Court of Appeal seeking the suspension of certain decisions adopted at the Government meeting of July 23, claiming that Bolojan would be the “sole culprit” if Romania lost NRRP funds because of these decisions.
