On Wednesday, the Senate approved the reform law for Romsilva, aimed at streamlining the institution through clear rules and competence.

The Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, detailed the changes, including the requirement for competitions for filling vacant positions, with written tests and published interviews. Additionally, the heads of the forestry departments will switch to mandate contracts with performance indicators, and the Romsilva vehicle fleet and equipment will be monitored via GPS. Foresters will be equipped with body cameras, and the recordings can be used in court. Buzoianu mentioned that the next step is to reduce the number of directorates and heads, emphasizing the importance of reform for the protection of Romania's forests and attracting European funds. The reform has generated controversy, including disputes between the coalition partners USR and PSD.
