Before presenting the report, interim Minister of the Environment Diana Buzoianu announced the launch of a digital platform of the Forest Guard, through which citizens can submit petitions and track online the status of complaints and the results of inspections. The system was also intended to allow comparisons of the activities of inspectors and forest guards, including with regard to identified damages and the measures ordered.
At the same time, Buzoianu spoke about expanding monitoring through advanced technologies, with satellite imagery and systems to track timber shipments, in order to increase the efficiency of identifying suspicious changes. In parallel, updates to the framework for preventing and responding to forest fires were also announced, including through monitoring with drones, cameras, and satellite imagery.
During the same period, the minister made specific allegations against Romsilva and forestry structures, citing irregularities in concrete cases and criticizing the way in which the institutions had allegedly managed inspections or complied with recommendations. These signals were accompanied by announcements regarding the discovery of illegal logging and promises to continue checks and apply legal measures.
