The government approved Romsilva’s 2026 revenue and expenditure budget on Friday, providing for total revenues of 3.55 billion lei, expenses of 3.445 billion lei and an estimated gross profit of more than 105 million lei. The main new measure is the allocation of 24.4 million lei to equip field forestry personnel with body cameras.
The funds will finance the purchase of 5,300 body cameras, mounting systems and 670 docking stations. The equipment is intended to document incidents and protect foresters and inspectors who monitor logging operations. Interim Environment Minister Diana Buzoianu said that personnel fighting illegal logging are exposed to intimidation and assaults.
The budget also includes funds for installing GPS devices on Romsilva vehicles, as well as for digitizing forest management. The 2026 investment program amounts to 288.7 million lei and targets forest roads, torrent control works and protective forest belts.
Buzoianu also announced a platform to make Forest Guard inspections more transparent. According to the minister, over the past eight months, the identified damage has increased by nearly 200%, while the volume of identified illegal logging has risen by 142%.
