Although the president requested the parties to come up with solutions for the political crisis, Nicușor Dan announced, after a meeting with the leaders of the former coalition, that the deadlock has persisted.
"We have returned to the political deadlock that I thought we had overcome. Based on the positions of the parties from the consultations, there was only one formula that seemed to gather the support of a parliamentary majority: a minority PSD government," Nicușor Dan conveyed.
The head of state also said that PNL committed on Tuesday to support the minority PSD government, with certain conditions, but has since changed its position.
"It is the responsibility of the parties to negotiate among themselves a majority for any government formula they consider appropriate. I continue to urge them to return to dialogue. Romania needs a government with full powers," the president conveyed.
