President Nicușor Dan resumed consultations with the parties at Cotroceni Palace on Monday, October 5, in an attempt to make the fourth appointment of a prime minister, after the first three nominations failed. The discussions are taking place against the backdrop of the political crisis and the difficulties in forming a parliamentary majority.
The USR delegation, led by Dominic Fritz, told the head of state that snap elections could represent the most honest solution for Romania. Fritz stated that the party supports snap elections, but specified that USR would hold talks with the prime minister appointed by the president if he makes a new nomination.
The USR leader said that the future government must have sufficient support to reduce energy prices, carry out reforms in the judiciary, and prevent the budget deficit from increasing. He stressed that the main question is which government can deliver results for Romania and with what parliamentary majority it would operate.
The USR delegation included Dominic Fritz, Oana Țoiu, Radu Miruță, Diana Buzoianu, and Irineu Darău. Consultations are set to continue with the other political formations.
