The Deputy Prime Minister Tanczos Barna stated that Romania has not made serious reforms, despite repeated promises made to the European Commission. Fiscal consolidation should have started last year, but elections led to delays, and now Romania is in a critical situation. Barna mentioned that without government measures, the situation would have been much worse, considering that previous promises have not been kept. The European Commission warned that if fiscal consolidation is not implemented, European funds could be suspended. The Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged that reforms can no longer be postponed, as Romania no longer has credibility in front of the Commission, considering the delays in the pension system reforms for magistrates.
