The Deputy Prime Minister and interim Minister of Agriculture, Tánczos Barna, stated that the price of diesel in Romania is "unacceptably high" and that, following the decrease in international oil quotations, pump prices should drop rapidly.
He emphasized that, although international quotations have returned to pre-conflict levels, this is not reflected in local prices. He mentioned that there is no extension of the measure to limit the commercial markup and highlighted the need for state intervention to regulate the market.
He also discussed with market operators, emphasizing that price adjustments should be swift, considering previous increases.
"I have had several discussions with the largest market operators. I cannot agree with them 100%. I do not believe that Platts or the quotations for the finished product of diesel or gasoline should influence the pump price in this way," said Tánczos Barna.
The Deputy Prime Minister's statements come after consultations at the Victoria Palace between Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, interim Minister of Finance Alexandru Nazare, and the main operators in the fuel market, amid rising diesel prices. The discussions focused on price developments and possible measures to protect the population and the economy.
