During the PSD Congress, Sorin Grindeanu, the candidate for the party leadership, stated that he does not want to be a president who runs away from history, but one who takes responsibility for both the achievements and the mistakes of the party. He apologized to the Romanians on behalf of all for the errors made. Grindeanu emphasized that PSD has played an essential role in maintaining Romania's stability during times of crisis and invited all generations of the party to reconciliation, in order to unite the valuable voices of the Left.
He stated that Romania is once again at a crossroads and that PSD must prepare for a new direction, based on respect for social-democratic roots. Grindeanu promised to rebuild trust on a clean foundation and to gather all social-democratic ideas into a common project for a "Strong and Prosperous Romania."
