Sorin Grindeanu, the leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), stated that his party is 'the closest' to forming a majority in Parliament to establish a government with full powers after September 1.
In a press conference, Grindeanu criticized the current interim Prime Minister, Ilie Bolojan, accusing him of a lack of reforms and efficiency, mentioning economic contraction and poverty. Although he has not received firm promises of support from other parliamentarians, Grindeanu is optimistic that he will succeed in forming a minority government that will have to negotiate every important law.
He emphasized that PSD and UDMR share the desire to have a swift government, without putting obstacles in the way of forming a coalition. Grindeanu stressed the importance of changing the current management to improve the situation in Romania.
