Radu Miruță, the Minister of Defense, discussed Romania's plans to invest 11.68 billion euros in defense by 2026, through 21 projects dedicated to equipping the army. These projects include the acquisition of assault weapons, next-generation combat vehicles, drones, and radars for air defense. The Ministry of Defense will use funds from the European SAFE program, which can only finance new projects if they are strictly related to defense. Miruță emphasized the importance of producing armaments in Romania to reduce external dependence. He also mentioned the need to modernize armament factories, which require investments to operate efficiently. Romania collaborates with international companies, such as Rheinmetall, to develop military production capabilities. The SAFE program offers co-financing opportunities from the EU, which could boost the local defense industry and ensure national security.
