Radu Miruță, the interim Minister of Defense, announced the signing of the remaining contracts from the SAFE (Security Action for Europe) program, which includes the acquisition of 12 Airbus helicopters and 12 Ground Master 200 radar systems, with a total value of 1.012 billion euros. So far, through the SAFE program, contracts worth 7.5 billion euros have been signed out of a total of 8.33 billion euros. The German company Rheinmetall will benefit from the largest part of the sum, namely 5.69 billion euros.
Radu Miruță mentioned that by 2030, more important contracts are to be signed, including an NSM air defense system from Norway and a drone project in collaboration with Ukraine, valued at 200 million euros. The SAFE program, managed by the Ministry of Defense, provides for total investments of 8.33 billion euros in military equipment, with an average local production share of approximately 50%. Romania will benefit from 16.6 billion euros from the total budget of 150 billion euros of the European Union, being the second country by value after Poland.
