Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan had a meeting on Tuesday with the head of the Office of the President of the Republic of Korea, Kang Hoon Sik, during an official visit to Bucharest. The South Korean delegation, composed of government officials and representatives of defense companies, came to explore cooperation opportunities in the defense industry, emphasizing investments in the production of military equipment and technological development projects. This meeting takes place in a symbolic context, marking 35 years of diplomatic relations between Romania and South Korea.
The discussions highlighted the importance of the strategic partnership between the two countries, with South Korea being Romania's first partner in the Asia-Pacific region. Prime Minister Bolojan mentioned the existing contract with Hanwha Aerospace for the K9 'Thunder' self-propelled howitzers and expressed interest in future collaborations in defense and other sectors. He also discussed the use of European funds for the modernization of the armed forces, emphasizing the importance of transparency in resource management. Both parties agreed to continue the dialogue and technical-economic cooperation to strengthen the strategic partnership. The meeting was also attended by other government officials, including the Minister of National Defense.
