Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan met on Thursday, September 17, at Victoria Palace, with the new Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Romania, Hur Seung-chul, and representatives of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), to assess the progress of the project to refurbish Unit 1 of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant.
The discussions covered the work currently underway, the next stages, and the measures necessary to complete the investment according to the established schedule. Park Sangchul, the general manager of the refurbishment project, as well as representatives of Nuclearelectrica, also attended the meeting.
Ilie Bolojan underscored the importance of the project for the national energy system. Units 1 and 2 at Cernavodă jointly provide approximately 20% of Romania’s electricity needs.
The meeting also included discussions on Romanian–South Korean economic cooperation, with an emphasis on civilian nuclear energy and the defense industry. The prime minister welcomed the progress of the bilateral dialogue and conveyed to the ambassador the Government’s support for strengthening the Strategic Partnership between the two states.
