Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan met on Wednesday in Bucharest with the ambassadors of the European Union member states and the representative of the European Commission to discuss Romania’s economic situation, energy security, and the risks in the Black Sea region.
The head of government presented the measures adopted to balance the budget and correct the economy’s structural deficiencies. According to the government, the reforms aim to strengthen the economy and increase business confidence. Bolojan emphasized that their continuation is necessary in the complicated international context.
Another central topic was energy security and maintaining affordable prices for the population. The prime minister reaffirmed the importance of Romania’s membership in the European Union, which he described as one of the most important achievements of the past decades.
“Romania’s membership in the European Union is one of the most important achievements of the past 35 years. The fact that we are part of the European family is a major gain for Romania, and I am confident that this direction will be maintained,” Ilie Bolojan said.
The discussions also addressed the deterioration of the security situation in the Black Sea, including following recent attacks on commercial vessels in the exclusive economic zones of Romania and Bulgaria. Bolojan said that Romania is ready to cooperate more closely with Bulgaria and Turkey to protect navigation. Hybrid threats and disinformation campaigns were also discussed.
The prime minister thanked the European partners for their cooperation and the allies for their military presence in Romania, considered important for the security of NATO’s eastern flank.
