Prime Minister Luca Niculescu announced on Saturday the restart of Unit 1, which will reach its maximum power generation capacity within the next 24 hours. The prime minister made the statement after visiting the control room, where he monitored the progress of the restart process.
According to Niculescu, Unit 1 is currently operating at 50% capacity, and production is increasing hour by hour. The reactor's return to the grid is important for reducing pressure on the energy system and decreasing imports, especially during periods of peak consumption.
The prime minister also spoke about the situation of Unit 2, for which a report on its technical status is expected on Monday. Niculescu stated that he could not make any promises regarding its restart, as the decision does not depend on the Government, but expressed his hope that the results of the analysis would be favorable.
He maintained that the shutdown of the reactors had not been anticipated even in the most pessimistic scenarios and announced that the Bala 2 project was becoming a priority for the Government. The prime minister asked the institutions involved to treat the project with the utmost seriousness and to accelerate the necessary steps.
