Prime Minister Luca Niculescu and Energy Minister Dumitru Chisăliță will visit the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant on Saturday, one day after Unit 1 was resynchronized with the National Energy System. The visit is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., followed by press statements.

Unit 1 was reconnected on Friday, November 6, 2026, more than three months after its controlled shutdown. Nuclearelectrica said the start-up operations were carried out in accordance with applicable procedures and had no impact on nuclear safety, personnel or the public.

According to Transelectrica data, on Saturday at 6:30 a.m., the plant was supplying 272 megawatts, equivalent to 5.53% of total energy production.

Unit 1 had been shut down on July 28 due to the drop in the Danube’s flow, which no longer allowed the water needed to cool the reactors to be secured. Unit 2 was gradually disconnected on August 13, resulting in the complete shutdown of the plant. The Energy Minister said the losses generated by the interruption of production had not yet been officially assessed, but they affect the entire country, including through the costs of energy imports.
