The Association of Italians in Romania challenged the decree by which Nicușor Dan designated Siegfried Mureșan as prime minister

The Association of Italians in Romania – RO.AS.IT. has challenged before the Bucharest Court of Appeal the decree by which President Nicușor Dan appointed Siegfried Mureșan as a candidate for the position of prime minister. The action was registered on September 22, 2026, with the Ninth Administrative and Fiscal Litigation Division, but the court has not yet set a hearing date.

The association’s action concerns the presidential act by which Mureșan was appointed to form a new government. So far, the specific reasons why RO.AS.IT. challenged the decree have not been made public.

Siegfried Mureșan announced that he would not return his mandate, although the parliamentary support he currently has amounts to 170 votes, compared with the 233 needed for approval. The PNL, USR and UDMR have announced their support for forming the government, while the PSD leadership decided not to vote for the Cabinet.

According to the schedule presented by the designated prime minister, negotiations with parliamentary parties and representatives of minorities will continue on Thursday and Friday. On Monday, he is due to present the Cabinet’s composition and the governing program to Parliament, and on Tuesday, September 29, after the ministers are heard by the committees, he could request a vote of confidence.

RO.AS.IT. was founded in 1993 in Suceava and was granted public utility status in 2008. It is headed by Ioana Grosaru.
