11 organizations of the Italian community in Romania distance themselves from the legal action against the appointment of Siegfried Mureșan

Eleven organizations representing Romania’s Italian community are distancing themselves from the legal action brought by the Association of Italians in Romania (RO.AS.IT.) against the decree by which President Nicușor Dan appointed Siegfried Mureșan as prime minister. The case was registered with the Bucharest Court of Appeal on September 22, and the first hearing was set for September 28.

The signatory organizations state that RO.AS.IT. has the right to express its own opinions and represents the Italian minority in Parliament, but cannot speak on behalf of the entire Italian community in Romania. They reject any attempt to turn the position of a single association into a collective position.

In a statement, representatives of the organizations specify that the Italian presence in Romania includes people of Italian origin, resident Italian citizens, entrepreneurs, professionals, families, and members of academic, cultural, and educational circles. They consider the appointment of the prime minister to be a constitutional and institutional procedure and say they do not wish to intervene in the country’s domestic politics.

RO.AS.IT., led by MP Ioana Grosaru, is seeking the annulment of Decree 770/2026. The association is a public-interest organization founded in 1993 and receives public funding, with the Constitution guaranteeing it a seat in Parliament to represent the Italian minority.
