Mihai Fifor says that PSD will not vote for the Mureșan Government: “If Siggi is looking for a majority in Parliament, he will not find it in PSD”

PSD lawmaker Mihai Fifor announced on Wednesday that the Social Democrats will not vote for the Mureșan Government, but that the party is willing to analyze the governing program proposed by PNL. Depending on the measures presented, it could provide the basis for talks on forming a parliamentary majority after the vote on the new executive.

Fifor said in a message posted on Facebook that PSD’s decision had already been adopted by the National Permanent Bureau. He argued that the liberals would not receive the Social Democrats’ support for the installation of the Mureșan Government and reiterated the party’s critical stance toward the designated prime minister, using the phrase “danke, aber nein,” translated as “thank you, but no.”

At the same time, the PSD lawmaker said that the party was waiting to see PNL’s governing program in order to determine whether the liberals were changing their economic direction. Fifor called for measures to revive the economy, protect purchasing power, support Romanian capital and preserve jobs.

He criticized, however, the prospect of new measures to cut spending and impose austerity. According to the lawmaker, if the PNL program reflects a change in approach, PSD could have a solid basis for negotiations on forming a majority after the predictable parliamentary vote on the Mureșan Government.
