The social democrats have suffered a new electoral defeat, with the PSD candidate, Daniel Băluță, being surpassed by the liberal Ciprian Ciucu and Anca Alexandrescu from AUR, who attracted votes from the traditional PSD electorate. This situation reinforces the belief among PSD leaders that they should enter the Opposition. Dissatisfied with the relationship with USR in the governing Coalition, the social democrats are considering two options: leaving the government or requesting the removal of USR from the Executive. The decision could be made after the budget for 2026 is voted on, expected at the end of January. Marcel Ciolacu emphasized the need for an internal analysis, while Sorin Grindeanu mentioned that PSD won in CJ Buzău and in other small mayoralties, stating that the party continues to lead.

The president of PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, after announcing the results of the elections that took place yesterday: "The coalition must move forward. For 3, 4, 5 months we have seen opinion polls with political votes where AUR was around 40%. I haven't seen even the smallest common gain by AUR, nothing gained by USR."
