Ilie Bolojan, who is leading a caretaker government, announced that the National Liberal Party (PNL) could accept a technocratic government formula, provided it receives parliamentary support and assumes measures for spending control and deficit reduction. Asked by RFI about the possibility of a technocratic prime minister, Bolojan stated that he does not reject this idea, emphasizing the importance of a stable government for the country's well-being.
The Romanian government is in an unprecedented situation, following the no-confidence motion of May 5, 2026, and the Bolojan government has surpassed the previous record set by the Emil Boc government in 2009, thus becoming the cabinet with the longest interim period in post-December history. On July 15, 2026, the Bolojan government matched the record of 71 days, and on August 7, 2026, the interim period reached 94 days.
