Siegfried Mureșan, vice president of PNL and the proposed prime minister from PNL, USR, and UDMR, announced on Friday evening that PNL will not support Sorin Grindeanu for the position of prime minister. Mureșan emphasized that the party has never stated that it would support this candidacy and that the priority is the modernization and reform of the country, not support for Grindeanu.
The head of state previously announced that PNL committed on Tuesday to support the minority PSD government, but changed his mind.
Mureșan criticized the lack of action from Grindeanu and PSD in addressing Romania's urgencies, such as implementing the reforms from the PNRR and attracting European funds. Additionally, President Nicușor Dan mentioned that discussions with the leaders of the former coalition did not lead to an agreement, and the political deadlock persists. The head of state called on the parties to return to dialogue to form a governmental majority.
