The National Liberal Party (PNL) asked PSD on Tuesday to take responsibility for the political crisis generated by the motion of censure, requesting a concrete proposal for prime minister from the ranks of the social democrats or to provide the necessary space for the formation of a democratic government without the participation of social democrats.
"The National Liberal Party asks PSD to take responsibility for resolving the political crisis in which it has plunged the country by putting forward a concrete proposal for prime minister from its own members. Under the conditions in which PSD is unable to offer such an option, we ask PSD to publicly acknowledge its inability to lead the country and to provide the necessary space for the formation of a democratic, pro-Euro-Atlantic government, without PSD's participation," the liberals stated in a message posted on their official Facebook page.
PNL accuses PSD of irresponsibility and superficiality in the consultations with the President of Romania, emphasizing that Romania is in a state of political uncertainty for two weeks.
The liberals also accused PSD of hiding behind the idea of a technocratic prime minister as an attempt to avoid political responsibility.
PNL insists that a technocratic prime minister will not be able to implement the difficult measures necessary for strengthening the national economy.
Moreover, PNL's statement aligns with those communicated by USR on Monday, immediately after the consultations at Cotroceni with Nicușor Dan, namely that a technocratic government will be used as a "screen for PSD" to continue controlling the levers of power in the Romanian state.
PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu stated on Monday that he prefers a political prime minister, but mentioned that, in the case of a technocratic prime minister, he should meet certain conditions, namely that the prime minister should be "anchored in the realities of Romania and should know the political scene in Romania well."
