The South Korean Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday the mobilization of fighter jets, after several Russian military aircraft entered the country's air defense identification zone, without violating its sovereign airspace.
The incident occurred over the Sea of Japan, and the South Korean military responded promptly to address any situation. The air defense identification zone is a buffer zone where foreign aircraft must identify themselves, although this obligation is not legally binding.
In June, a similar incident occurred, involving over ten Chinese and Russian aircraft, which conducted a "strategic air patrol" in the region. At that time, Seoul protested to Moscow and Beijing, demanding the avoidance of such incursions in the future.
