Lia Olguța Vasilescu, the mayor of Craiova, mocked the PNL's proposal to support Siegfried Mureșan for the position of prime minister, stating that Romanians "will struggle to pronounce" his name.
The statements were made in the context of negotiations for forming a new government, in which PNL, USR, and UDMR support Mureșan, while PSD proposes Sorin Grindeanu. Vasilescu emphasized that Mureșan has no knowledge of life in Romania and mocked his European profile, suggesting that he has "only absorbed the salary of a MEP."
Her criticism comes in the wake of the political deadlock generated by the failure to vote for the investiture of the Veștea Government. Vasilescu mentioned that a monochrome PSD government, led by Grindeanu, could gain the support of UDMR, considering it a "serious party" whose vote could be decisive for forming the new Cabinet.
