President Nicușor Dan could propose a new government made up of ministers from the former coalition parties, led by a presidential advisor, possibly Radu Burnete, according to G4Media sources. This initiative will be discussed at Cotroceni with the leaders of PSD, PNL, USR, and UDMR, in case Eugen Tomac's government does not obtain the investiture vote in Parliament.
The scenario comes after PNL and USR decided to no longer collaborate with PSD, following the censure motion that led to the dismissal of Bolojan's government. Although the president previously tried to change the decisions of PNL and USR, he faced refusals. In PNL, a proposal to restore the coalition with PSD has failed, and the liberals may organize an extraordinary congress to decide the future of the party. In USR, support for a government alongside PSD is limited, given the pressure from the electorate. Although Tomac has received refusals from parties, he intends to go to the final vote in Parliament.
Moreover, the backup option was intensely discussed on Tuesday, while the parties that had consultations with Eugen Tomac had reactions at least reserved towards a potential Tomac cabinet.
The only party that expressed its willingness to vote for the investiture of Tomac's government would be PSD, but it imposed a series of conditions for its support, such as VAT reductions on food and medicines, increasing the minimum wage, and changes regarding CASS, to eliminate it for mothers, veterans, and people with disabilities.
Digi24 sources mentioned that a possible backup option could also be the current Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare.
