President Nicușor Dan detailed the reasons for appointing Eugen Tomac as prime minister, emphasizing that the current political context and the difficulties of negotiations between parties necessitated the choice of a person with political experience and independence from parliamentary parties. Dan stated that negotiation skills and the management of relationships between parties are essential for leading the Government, believing that a politician is more suitable than a technocrat.
He also mentioned that discussions with the parties from the former coalition were complex and that negotiations regarding the government program are ongoing. Nicușor Dan clarified that, once the prime minister is appointed, the responsibility for forming the executive team falls to Eugen Tomac, who is withdrawing from negotiations. In conclusion, the choice of an independent prime minister was dictated by the lack of a viable alternative to maintain Romania's pro-Western direction.
