President Nicușor Dan will hold a new round of consultations with the parliamentary parties on Monday at Cotroceni Palace and will nominate a candidate for the position of prime minister on the same day. This is the fourth attempt to identify a solution that can secure Parliament’s vote, following the rejection of the Mureșan Government.
The consultations will begin at 14:00, with a 30-minute meeting between the president and the PSD leaders. Starting at 14:30, discussions are scheduled successively with AUR, PNL, USR, UDMR, the national minorities’ group, SOS România, POT, and several parliamentary groups. The final meeting is scheduled for 19:00, with unaffiliated parliamentarians.
According to the schedule sent by the Presidential Administration, the meetings will take place in the Ambassadors’ Salon at Cotroceni. Representatives of all parliamentary groups, including unaffiliated senators and deputies, have been invited to the consultations.
By Monday, Nicușor Dan is expected to hold informal talks with the leaders of the parties from the former coalition, in an attempt to build a parliamentary majority. The president has asked the formations to come up with solutions that can pass the vote and to make compromises in order to reach a political consensus.
Nicușor Dan announced the new consultations in a statement delivered on Wednesday, in the Czech Republic, after the Mureșan Government failed to receive Parliament’s vote. He said that such a step is necessary so that the parties and citizens understand the need for a political agreement.
