President Nicușor Dan will convene the parliamentary parties for consultations on Monday and nominate a candidate for prime minister that same afternoon, following the failure to form a majority around a new government.
The announcement was made in Prague, where the head of state said that Parliament had failed to reach an agreement to support a government formula. Nicușor Dan thanked Siegfried Mureșan for taking responsibility for proposing a government program and a cabinet structure.
The president asked the parties to organize their internal meetings and come on Monday with solutions capable of securing parliamentary support. He stressed that forming a majority requires compromises and political consensus, calling on the parties to “each give a little.”
Nicușor Dan also said that Romania would maintain its pro-Western direction and honor its financial commitments to external partners. The consultations at Cotroceni and Monday’s nomination represent the next step toward resolving the political crisis.
