Designated Prime Minister Mureșan called, in Parliament’s plenary session, for firm democratic oversight of intelligence services and a more active role for the legislature in its relationship with the Government, during the investiture vote. He argued that Romania must be “a state in which no one is above democratic oversight, not even the intelligence services”—an objective included in the governing program.
Mureșan urged lawmakers to be “strong and active” and to exercise their oversight powers over the Government. The designated prime minister also presented other reform priorities: better public services, the reorganization of ANAF, reducing bureaucracy for entrepreneurs, and establishing a one-stop shop for citizens.
According to him, the reforms must generate benefits and revenue for the state, not losses covered by Romanians’ taxes and duties. The announced measures include reducing the number of MPs based on the results of the latest census, limiting the number of state secretaries to three for each ministry, and reorganizing state-owned companies during the first months of the term.
