The joint standing bureaus of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate set the schedule for the investiture of the government led by designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan on Saturday. Hearings for the proposed ministers will take place on Monday and Tuesday, while the investiture vote is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, at 1 p.m., in a joint session of Parliament.
The ministers will be heard on Monday, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The government requires 233 votes for investiture, but Mureșan announced that he currently has the support of 170 lawmakers from the PNL, USR and UDMR.
The designated prime minister submitted the government program and the list of proposed ministers to Parliament. The announced measures include reducing the number of lawmakers, limiting the number of state secretaries, banning the simultaneous receipt of a pension and a state salary, reforming state-owned companies and digitizing public services. Mureșan said that VAT will not be increased and that, when conditions allow, the tax is expected to return to 19%.
In the event of another failed vote, President Nicușor Dan could designate another candidate or initiate the procedure for early elections. Mureșan stressed that the formation of the government has already failed once.
