The joint session of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, during which the vote on the Mureșan government is taking place, has begun. Prime Minister-designate Siegfried Mureșan is to present the governing program and the list of his cabinet, after which debates and the vote on the request for Parliament’s confidence will follow.

The candidate designated for the position of prime minister has been allotted 30 minutes, but there will also be statements from parliamentarians from each party. PSD has been allocated 11 minutes, AUR - eight minutes, PNL - seven minutes, USR - five minutes, UDMR - three minutes, the United for Romania parliamentary group - one minute, the parliamentary group of national minorities - one minute, SOS Romania - one minute, PACE - First Romania - one minute, unaffiliated senators and deputies - two minutes.

Afterward, the investiture vote will take place and will be secret, using ballots. At least 233 votes “in favor” are required for investiture, out of a total of 465 parliamentarians.

PNL, USR and UDMR, the parties supporting the cabinet, together hold approximately 170 seats, although the prime minister-designate claimed the day before the vote that he had between 170 and 233 votes.
PSD announced that its parliamentarians would attend the session but would not support the cabinet, while AUR chose not to participate in the vote.
We also recall that hearings for the proposed candidates took place on Monday and Tuesday. On the first day, the proposed ministers for Energy - Sebastian Burduja, Defense - Radu Miruţă, Transport - Cătălin Drulă, and Economy - Irineu Darău received negative opinions. Tánczos Barna (Agriculture) and Alexandru Nazare (Finance) received positive opinions.
On the second day of hearings in the committees, Oana Ţoiu - Foreign Affairs, Mircea Abrudean - Interior, Dragoş Pîslaru - European Funds, and the UDMR ministers for Development (Cseke Attila) and Culture (Ötvös Koppány) received positive opinions. Raluca Turcan (Labor), Oana Gheorghiu (Health), Andrea Chiş (Justice) and Mihai Dimian (Education) received negative opinions.
The opinions are consultative.

What happens after a possible failure
PSD MEP Victor Negrescu said on Wednesday, on Digi24, that the Social Democrats want the future parliamentary majority to be built around PSD and hope that UDMR will change its position and help create this majority.
He said he expects a democratic, pro-Western and pro-European majority and once again rejected the scenario of a PSD-AUR government.
Political sources quoted by Antena 3 CNN say that Nicușor Dan does not intend to dissolve Parliament. The president is expected to resume consultations with the parties and make new nominations until a government is voted in.
UDMR parliamentary group leader Csoma Botond anticipates two more nominations: “My assumption is that (Nicușor Dan – ed.) will not dissolve Parliament now. I believe he will make two more nominations [...] One nomination of a political nature and one [...] he returns to his idea of a technocrat.” Csoma believes the second has better chances. Regarding a possible nomination from PSD, he said: “I am not sure that Mr. Grindeanu would want to take part in a possible failure as prime minister-designate.”
